About Us

La Salle County
Jr. Livestock Show

The La Salle County Junior Livestock Show was created to support the 4-H and FFA youth of La Salle County, giving them opportunities to develop skills in agriculture, leadership, and responsibility. Before 1973, young exhibitors in the southern part of the county primarily raised beef projects and showcased their livestock at the Laredo International Fair and Exposition. While a small local show was held in Cotulla, it lacked a sale or additional activities to support the youth. In 1973, the La Salle County Fair was established by the Young Homemakers of Texas, Cotulla Chapter, and quickly gained strong community support. A major part of this growth was the Junior Livestock Show, which became a central event for young agriculturalists. By the late 1970s, the show had become more structured, with the formation of the La Salle County 4-H and FFA Booster Club and a Board of Directors, leading to the creation of the Junior Livestock Show and Sale.

As the show expanded, small animal projects, such as hogs, broilers, and goats, were introduced, allowing more youth to participate. With growing interest, new facilities were built, transforming the event into what it is today. Over the years, additional categories have been added, including Commercial Heifer Shows and Shop Projects in metal and woodworking, ensuring students with diverse interests have opportunities to showcase their skills.

Today, the La Salle County Junior Livestock Show features a variety of youth projects, including: Steers, Halter Heifers, Commercial Heifers, Goats, Swine, Broilers, Shop Projects (Metal and Woodworking). The show is open to all 4-H and FFA members in La Salle County, with participants required to validate their animals on time and follow all official rules, available on our website. With a strong tradition of education, dedication, and community involvement, the La Salle County Junior Livestock Show continues to shape future leaders in agriculture and beyond.
